I love illustration and drawing, so when I discovered vectors, it added a completely new dimension to my concept of graphic art. The immeasurability and limitlessness of this creative medium appealed to my inherent appetite for lightweight and adaptable forms. As such, I like to throw out a couple of these every now and then.

Contractor Find is a portal to a series of home improvement directories focused on the South African home owner or building contractor. The website needed to plug in to a database which stored directories of contractors throughout the country. Based on the user's search criteria, a unique set of results would be returned, allowing potential customers to either get bulk quotes, or contact a company individually.

As the lead designer for this project, I saw it from conceptualization through to deployment. This included brand imaging, design mockups and coding. As it was paramount that the site was mobile-ready and fully responsive, it was coded using Twitter Bootstrap.

Print & share PHP and Javascript plugin for dynamically populated Bootstrap modals, written for Major4Agents.

UK based travel agency, Major Travel and subsidary, Major4Agents, displays their latest holiday deals via an XML feed using Latecards API. These feeds are displayed via PHP and further customised and styled using HTML and CSS.

The task at hand was to set up a printing and sharing option on each of these offers so that agents would be able to print the deal to show in their shop window, or share the link on their social media accounts. The difficulty came in the way that the offers were displayed: each was generated dynamically from the XML feed and assigned an ID at the time it was created, therefore making it difficult to pinpoint a direct link to a specific offer.

The other difficulty was separating the offer modal from the rest of the page content so as to hide the rest of the content during printing. This was because each modal was generated alongside it's offer and not at the end or beginning of the HTML document - therefore using CSS to hide the container which housed the modal, would hide the modal as well.

This, as well as the problem with singling out the link to a specific offer, was solved using Jquery to detect the offer's unique ID and prepend it to the body, and making use of Bootstrap's event listeners for their built-in modals.

Front-end redesign and development of the online flight booking engine for Major Travel.

Major Travel is an online travel agent based in London, specialising in worldwide flights and holidays. From the website's homepage, or through search engines such as Skyscanner a user is able to search for worldwide flights, filter their search accordingly and proceed with their booking by entering passenger details and finally making the payment for their flights.

While the backbones to this online booking engine functioned well, it needed a fresher, more modern look to it with added UI functionality. Most importantly, it had to be responsive so that it was as easy for a customer to book their flights on their mobile or tablet, as on a desktop.

Heading up the design, UX and development for this project required extensive research and groundwork. The primary difficulty lay in organising and condensing large volumes of information so as not to overwhelm the user, but also leaving this information accessible to them should they wish to see it. Often, a single flight option may have multiple choices in terms of times, journey duration and layovers. Even after a user had selected their preferred flight and time, they needed to be able to see the itinerary in more detail before proceeding to the next page.

These and many other problems were solved with the help of Jquery and Bootstrap's built-in functions like collapse.js and modal.js. This combined with UI components such as JqueryUI, glyphicons, and CSS3 created an overall simple, fuss-free user experience.

Wordpress site design and development for Alpha Shipping Agency.

Alpha Shipping Agency is an international freight forwarding and container specialist based in Durban, South Africa. Their primary requirement was the ability to keep their website up to date with the latest sailing schedules and photos of their appointed vessels as well as important company and industry news.

It made sense to develop the new website for use with Wordpress's CMS, allowing a select few employees to manage the updating of various sections on the site.

The website functions fully as a Wordpress theme, coded with Twitter Bootstrap making it completely responsive. The admin side of the site was also customised and configured for ease of use by someone who may or may not have experience in using a content management system.

Redesign and development of UK travel agency website, Major Travel.

As a prerequisite to the redesign of their online booking engine, a similar facelift was needed for Major Travel's product website. The site's aim was to invoke a sense of trust and security in a potential booker by adopting a clean, equilateral design and reiterating the sky blue colour theme throughout.

As well as the user interface redesign, a few specialised key components needed to be developed. These included a more polished flight search form, a custom-built datepicker, a holiday offer search function, and other smaller Javascript plugins.

Website concept visualization.

The concept behind Wedding Find grew off the success of a previous project for Contractor Find. Wedding Find is a portal for both brides and grooms to be, as well as an advertising platform those offering wedding services. A user would be able to search for their required service using their location and then browse through a list of potential businesses or personnel to get specialised, individual quotes. They are also able to send bulk quote requests to all businesses listed in their required category.

This brochure design was used as a sale tool for advertising space on Cape Town Contractors and was subsequently rolled out to 14 other regions throughout South Africa.

After the print design was approved, it was converted into a fully responsive HTML and CSS document to be displayed on the web.
